Actor John Boyega has reflected on the 2000 killing of his childhood friend, Damilola Taylor, in relation to the release of a new BBC Two documentary, ‘Damilola: The Untold Story’.

Taylor was fatally attacked with a glass bottle in Peckham, south-east London, while walking home from a library at age 10. The incident led to extensive legal proceedings, including three trials at the Old Bailey that cost approximately £16m to secure a manslaughter conviction.

Boyega, who was eight at the time and was among the last people to see Taylor alive, spoke about the personal trauma and the broader issue of youth violence in the area. The documentary examines the final 24 hours of Taylor’s life and the long-term emotional impact on the local community and those involved nearly 26 years later.
