British actor Shane Richie, known for his role as Alfie Moon in EastEnders, is facing drink-driving charges following an incident at a petrol station in Harlow, Essex, on July 29. Reports indicate Richie was involved in an argument with staff regarding vaping before being arrested by Essex Police. The arrest occurred in the Church Langley Way area shortly before 11:20 pm.

On September 9, Richie appeared via video link at Colchester Magistrates’ Court under his real name, Shane Roche, and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors allege he was driving a white Hyundai while over the legal alcohol limit. A breath test at Harlow police station reportedly recorded 65 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, which is nearly double the legal limit of 35 micrograms.

Deputy District Judge Christopher Maynard granted Richie bail until November 17, 2027, when he is scheduled to stand trial at the same court. Richie’s legal representative stated that the actor will not be commenting while criminal proceedings are active.

In addition to the legal proceedings, Richie finalized a divorce from his wife of 19 years, Christie Goddard, on July 23. The divorce followed a period of personal difficulty for the couple, who married in 2007 and have three children together.
