Legal and political tensions involving Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have escalated following judicial actions in Islamabad.

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) initially issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Afridi and three other PTI leaders in connection with terrorism-related charges. These warrants were issued after the accused failed to appear for court proceedings.

The situation intensified when an ATC ordered the blocking of passports for 24 PTI lawmakers, including Afridi, to prevent them from leaving the country to evade legal proceedings regarding alleged attacks on state institutions.

Amidst these developments, a confrontation occurred in Lahore where Afridi alleged he was “abducted” by authorities and left by the roadside, describing it as a “conspiracy to abduct the chief minister of a province.” Conflicting reports emerged regarding the incident: a KP government official claimed Afridi entered a police van to protest the detention of party workers, while Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari stated Afridi entered the vehicle voluntarily and was released after the driver perceived a threat from supporters.
