The XI edition of the Letras en Sevilla cultural cycle in Seville, Spain, has commenced with a focus on the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War under the theme ‘1936: the war we all lost’.

The event was previously postponed from February following political controversy and the withdrawal of several speakers, including writer David Uclés. Organizers noted that the postponement was due to political pressure and attempts to silence specific viewpoints. To promote pluralism, the program includes figures from across the political spectrum, such as former Prime Minister José María Aznar, former Madrid Mayor Manuela Carmena, and Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory Ángel Víctor Torres.

Programming continues with historical conferences featuring experts like Manuel Álvarez Tardío and Fernando del Rey, as well as a film screening of Alejandro Amenábar’s ‘Mientras dure la guerra’, which examines the conflicts of writer Miguel de Unamuno. Recent sessions have included General Félix Sanz Roldán and historian Gutmaro Gómez Bravo, alongside a discussion with director Alejandro Amenábar regarding the intersection of cinema and the Spanish Civil War.
