LG Electronics is expanding its heat pump technology applications across different global markets. In Europe, the company is targeting the heat pump market by offering integrated solutions, such as combining its ‘Therma V’ systems with stainless steel buffer tanks. In South Korea, LG is advancing residential electrification to support carbon neutrality. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Jeju Development Corporation, and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology to launch a pilot project at the Shinhyo Apartment complex in Seogwipo. This initiative, scheduled for construction between October and December 2026, represents the first attempt in South Korea to fully electrify heating and cooling in an occupied multi-unit residential building by replacing fossil fuel-based boilers with a 100% electric system.

The Jeju pilot utilizes high-efficiency heat pumps for individual unit cooling and floor heating, while a central ‘Power to Heat’ (P2H) system uses surplus renewable energy, such as solar power, to provide hot water via a large-capacity common tank. LG intends to use the collected data to develop a standard model for Korean-style apartment electrification. Furthermore, LG is promoting an energy-independent residential model through its ‘Smart Cottage’ concept, which integrates heat pumps with home energy management systems (HEMS) and solar power to optimize consumption and develop a ‘boiler-less apartment’ model for both public and private housing.
