Lian first achieved an average solve time of 4.52 seconds before improving her mark to 4.27 seconds during a competition in Guangzhou on September 16, making her the first female speedcuber to record an average time below 4.5 seconds. Her individual single record for the 3x3x3 cube is noted at 3.54 seconds. Lian began solving the puzzle at age four, when her initial times were approximately 90 seconds per cube. To support her development, her family sought specialized training in Shanghai.
