The Lido protocol has undergone several governance and operational expansions. In late September 2026, the Lido Curated Module Committee gained authority to adjust the protocol’s deposit-reserve target, a mechanism used to balance validator deposits against stETH withdrawal requests. The committee, a five-of-nine multisignature body, can set this target between zero and 9,600 ETH. The committee proposed setting this target to zero pending the launch of the 0x02 Community Staking Module in October 2026.

By mid-October, Lido expanded its staking capabilities to include one-transaction Ethereum staking across four Layer 2 networks: Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism. This expansion utilizes Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol to facilitate messaging between these networks and the Ethereum mainnet. Additionally, the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) began deploying part of its treasury into Lido’s staking infrastructure, citing the liquidity and exit capabilities of stETH.

In late October, Lido launched its 0x02 Community Staking Module (CSM), utilizing Ethereum's EIP-7251 to increase the maximum effective balance per validator from 32 ETH to 2048 ETH. This upgrade aims to improve operational efficiency by reducing the need to manage numerous individual validator keys. During the initial rollout, the module is capped at 0.01% of Lido's total value locked (TVL), with subsequent stake increases managed through a limited queue. To mitigate risks associated with larger validator balances, Lido initiated a controlled test where node operators must post a 32 ETH bond to align incentives with validator integrity.

Concurrently, the protocol noted that Ethereum exchange-traded products (ETPs) maintaining unstaked cash reserves for redemptions may earn rewards on a smaller portion of their total ETH exposure compared to liquid staking alternatives.

## Timeline

### 2026-10-25: Lido launches 0x02 CSM to increase validator capacity to 2048 ETH

Lido has introduced the 0x02 CSM module, leveraging EIP-7251 to allow single Ethereum validators to hold up to 2048 ETH, significantly improving staking operational efficiency.

### 2026-10-15: Lido expands ETH staking to Layer 2 networks and EEA treasury

Lido has launched direct ETH staking on Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism via CCIP, while the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance has begun staking its treasury using Lido’s stETH.
