Club América has officially signed 33-year-old Colombian striker Miguel Ángel Borja for the Apertura 2026 tournament. Arriving from UAE-based Al Wasl, Borja is expected to sign a contract through 2028. The transfer, valued at approximately 2 to 2.5 million dollars, follows a failed negotiation with Cruz Azul due to foreign player quota issues.

As of early September, Borja has begun working to regain competitive rhythm and physical fitness following injuries, including knee and Achilles tendon issues. He recently scored his first goal for the club while playing with the Sub-21 team in a victory against Xolos de Tijuana, assisted by Alejandro Zendejas. Borja, along with Zendejas and goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón, is expected to rejoin the first team soon under manager Guillermo Almada.

Borja’s arrival is part of a strategic shift by owner Emilio Azcárraga to integrate more young players, a goal that also drove the hiring of Almada to replace André Jardine. Borja is expected to compete for attacking positions alongside captain Henry Martín. While Borja was registered to potentially debut in Matchday 6 against Puebla, his recent participation with the youth squad highlights his ongoing recovery process.

Other club developments include interest in midfielder Nelson Deossa and reports that defender Sebastián Cáceres has faced interest from Spanish club Celta de Vigo, though the player has not pressured the club for a transfer.
