Head football coach Lincoln Riley has faced increasing pressure regarding his job security at USC following a series of losses. Following a 41-27 home defeat to Oregon, critics highlighted a poor record against ranked opponents and a perceived gap between the program’s financial investments and on-field performance. At that time, Riley dismissed the criticism, stating the team had positive elements to build upon.

Pressure intensified after a subsequent 24-7 road loss to unranked Wisconsin. While Riley remains under a significant 10-year, $110 million contract with an estimated $70 million buyout, the program’s inability to maintain national title contention has fueled speculation. Following seasons of 15-11 records and a 20th-place AP poll finish in 2025, discussions have emerged regarding potential coaching moves to other programs, though such transitions would involve major financial implications.
