Sources: 119. Developments: 5. Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez issued a public apology following a post-match outburst after a 2-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid. Martínez had criticized technical director Jason Wilcox and questioned the club’s summer transfer investments, though he defended manager Michael Carrick. To resolve the dispute, Martínez met with Carrick and senior executives, including CEO Omar Berrada. The player described the meeting as a “very positive conversation” and stated his remarks were driven by “anger and frustration” rather than a lack of belief in the club. While former players like Gary Neville and Roy Keane criticized the comments, club leadership indicated the matter is now “considered closed” or “resolved,” and Martínez remains available for selection. Recent reports indicate the club may have imposed a financial fine on the player. The incident has reportedly caused internal tension, potentially impacting social gatherings among players' partners and raising questions regarding Martínez’s long-term future at the club in light of his contract status. Despite this, manager Michael Carrick has emphasized that the squad remains united as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, including a Premier League match against Leeds United. The outburst occurred during a difficult period for the club, which has endured its worst Premier League start in decades. New details suggest Martínez’s dissatisfaction was specifically linked to squad depth issues during the match in Madrid. He was reportedly frustrated that the club’s transfer strategy forced 20-year-old Ayden Heaven to play out of position at left-back due to injuries. While Martínez used social media to clarify that unity is necessary, he has reportedly suggested he does not see a long-term future at Old Trafford beyond his contract expiration in 2027. Following these events, Martínez has been linked to a potential move to Barcelona. ## Claims - Lisandro Martínez issued a formal apology for his post-match comments.
