One year after the Glória Elevator accident, which killed 16 people and injured 24, a memorial has been inaugurated at Largo da Oliveirinha. The monument features a 150-year-old olive tree surrounded by 16 limestone blocks engraved with the names of the victims, who represented 15 different nationalities.

Technical and legal investigations remain ongoing. While the Bureau for the Prevention and Investigation of Aircraft and Railway Accidents (GPIAAF) is expected to provide a final report by early 2027, the public prosecutor anticipates a final report regarding criminal responsibility by March. Despite these developments, victims' families have expressed frustration over what they describe as a “year of silence” and a lack of direct communication from authorities.

Regarding financial compensation, insurer Fidelidade has covered approximately 2.3 million euros for costs such as funeral services and medical treatments. However, of the 40 total compensation processes related to the tragedy, only four have been concluded, with many others remaining in negotiation or judicial proceedings.

Labor unions continue to criticize the decision to outsource maintenance, arguing that internal oversight could have prevented the disaster. In response to the tragedy, Carris is planning an international tender to modernize the funicular system, with the objective of resuming service by 2029.
