The 48th edition of the ‘Le Livre sur la Place’ literary festival took place in Nancy, France, from September 11 to 13, 2026. The event featured nearly 500 authors and illustrators participating in approximately 170 meetings, debates, and readings across various city locations.

A central theme of the festival was dialogue, highlighted by a symbolic co-presidency held by Israeli historian Élie Barnavi and Palestinian writer Elias Sanbar. Despite the ongoing conflict between their nations, the two men engaged in discussions to promote literature as a space for dialogue rather than confrontation.

The festival concluded with record attendance, drawing 135,000 visitors and 34,000 participants in author meetings. This high turnout occurred despite broader economic challenges and declining sales within the French book sector.
