Developments: 2. The Goeree-Overflakkee region is managing various local initiatives and environmental challenges. In terms of sustainability, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been offered free, independent advice through the ‘Ontzorgingsprogramma verduurzaming mkb’. This joint effort by the province of Zuid-Holland and the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee includes street-level visits to provide guidance on energy-saving measures, subsidies, and regulations, as well as free energy scans for properties. Environmental concerns have also emerged regarding significant coastal erosion near the Brouwersdam, where sand loss can exceed 50 meters per year. Addressing this may require an estimated 10 million euros for sand replenishment. To mitigate costs, officials are investigating natural solutions via the ‘Proeftuin Brouwersbaai’ project, which explores using oyster reefs and seagrass to influence water currents. Additionally, the community recently held the ‘Week voor Elkaar’ (Week for Each Other), a series of nearly 150 activities aimed at fostering social connection through intergenerational meetings and community meals. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: Goeree-Overflakkee faces coastal erosion and community initiatives Goeree-Overflakkee is tackling coastal erosion at Brouwersdam with potential natural barriers while concluding a large-scale community engagement week featuring nearly 150 local activities. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/goeree-overflakkee-faces-coastal-erosion-and-community-initiatives ### 2026-09-19: Goeree-Overflakkee offers free sustainability advice for SMEs SMEs in Goeree-Overflakkee can receive free, independent sustainability and energy-saving advice through a new program initiated by Zuid-Holland and the local municipality. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/goeree-overflakkee-offers-free-sustainability-advice-for-smes --- Cite as: Local developments in Goeree-Overflakkee.
