The 130th annual Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) conference convened in Cairns, bringing together hundreds of local government leaders, mayors, and CEOs. The event focused on addressing critical regional issues such as housing, infrastructure, cost shifting, and disaster funding.

During the proceedings, participants voted on over 100 motions to establish a collective advocacy agenda for the sector. The program also featured an Indigenous Leaders Forum to discuss community challenges like health inequity.

Following the policy discussions, the conference included ceremonies to recognize long-serving community leaders. Specifically, 98 councillors were honored for completing at least three local government terms, with some individuals recognized for service spanning up to 45 years.
