Several long-standing local restaurants and specialty eateries have closed across various regions in Japan.

In the Saitama and Tochigi prefectures, Chinese restaurants have ceased operations. In Gyoda, Saitama, Hong Kong Hanten is scheduled to close on September 14, 2026, due to the owner’s arm pain. In Utsunomiya, Tochigi, the long-running Meiro Hanten closed at the end of August; the establishment was noted for its signature ‘meat stew set meal’ which was ordered by approximately 90% of its customers.

In the Yokohama and Tokyo areas, other local businesses have also shut down. In Yokohama, the Asian takeout shop ‘Little Asia Jun.’ closed on August 25, 2026, after operating since 2021.
