Lombardy regional health authorities, coordinated by the Regional Emergency Urgency Agency (AREU), have conducted medical repatriations for citizens receiving treatment abroad.

On August 22, authorities organized the return of a 52-year-old woman from Skiathos, Greece, following a severe head trauma. After receiving initial care in Larissa and obtaining a ‘fit to fly’ clearance, she was transferred to San Gerardo Hospital in Monza.

During the same period, an 83-year-old resident of Vigevano was repatriated from Tirana, Albania, after being treated in intensive care for respiratory failure. The patient was transported via emergency medical flight and admitted to the intensive care unit at Voghera Hospital under the care of ASST Pavia.

Regional Welfare Assessor Guido Bertolaso noted that these operations demonstrate the region’s ability to support citizens even outside of Italian territory.
