Olympic champion Lucas Pinheiro Braathen has transitioned to representing Brazil and operating as an independent athlete following a 2023 retirement caused by a dispute with the Norwegian Ski Federation. He noted that this autonomy allows him to manage his own sporting and commercial decisions more effectively.

Looking toward the upcoming World Cup season, Braathen has announced his goal to win the overall crystal globe. To close the points gap with leader Marco Odermatt, he has adjusted his training to include more speed disciplines, such as super-G, while maintaining his competitive edge in slalom and giant slalom.
