Kevin Acton, the mayor of the Village of Lumby, faced scrutiny for running simultaneously in the October 17 municipal election and the October 24 provincial election for the Vernon-Lumby riding. To address concerns regarding taxpayer costs, Acton stated he would personally cover the expenses of a mayoral by-election if one became necessary.

Following the elections, Acton was re-elected as mayor but also secured a seat as the MLA for Vernon-Lumby. This dual outcome has led to a potential delay of the mayoral by-election until 2027. In the interim, Lumby will utilize an acting mayor system where duties rotate among council members. The village council is scheduled to be sworn in on November 2.
