Luster, the Woodbine Oaks winner, secured a dominant victory in the 167th running of the $1 million King’s Plate at Woodbine Racetrack. Ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, the filly won by 7 1/4 lengths against a field of male and female opponents. The race drew record wagering of $1,242,081. This victory marks the third King’s Plate win for trainer Josie Carroll.

Following the win, trainer Josie Carroll announced that Luster will not attempt to win the OLG Canadian Triple Crown. To avoid overworking the young filly, she will skip the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on Sept. 7 and the $500,000 Breeders’ Stakes on Sept. 27. 

Instead of pursuing the Triple Crown, connections are considering entering Luster in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, a turf event for three-year-old fillies at Keeneland on Oct. 11.
