The Peruvian government has implemented new measures to manage visitor access and site preservation at Machu Picchu.

To address a ticketing crisis where approximately 62.9% of reservations were subsequently canceled, the Ministry of Culture announced the elimination of advance digital reservations. The new system will require tickets to be nominal and linked to specific user identification to prevent users from booking and not using tickets, which had previously blocked access for other tourists.

Simultaneously, authorities announced a temporary closure of the Puente Inca sector (Route 1-D) from September 20 to September 25. This closure is a preventive measure to allow for emergency structural repairs on unstable pre-Hispanic walls and path platforms. During this period, visitors assigned to the affected route will be redirected to Ruta 1-C.
