The party highlighted a shortage of substitute and permanent teachers, alongside delays in distributing digital textbooks and devices to students. By late October, the focus shifted toward labor and budgetary concerns for public workers. The PS advocated for insularity subsidies for security forces and central administration workers, arguing that the 2027 State Budget lacks necessary supplements to offset regional costs. Concurrently, the Independent Union of Police Agents (SIAP) reported significant staffing shortages within the Public Security Police (PSP), noting that an increase in public events has forced officers to work excessive additional hours. As of late October, political discussions regarding the 2027 regional budget are ongoing. The PSD-led government in Madeira has proposed a budget exceeding 2.3 billion euros, prioritizing health, housing, and tax reductions. While supporters point to increased state transfers and funding for a new central hospital, opposition groups such as the JPP have called for lower VAT, expanded public housing, and increased support for banana farmers. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-21: Madeira and Azores debate 2027 regional budgets and local needs Regional budget debates intensify in Madeira and the Azores, covering fiscal planning, housing, and local infrastructure needs. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/madeira-police-and-state-workers-demand-insularity-subsidies ### 2026-09-28: Madeira Socialist Party demands hearing over teacher shortages The Socialist Party has requested a hearing with Madeira's Education Secretary to address teacher shortages and delays in distributing digital textbooks to students. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/madeira-socialist-party-demands-hearing-over-teacher-shortages --- Cite as: Madeira regional administrative and service shortages.
