On September 27, Madonna performed at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, marking her first VMA appearance in 23 years. Her set included a medley featuring ‘Bring Your Love’ with Sabrina Carpenter and a performance of ‘Danceteria Afterhours’ with Charli XCX. Madonna dominated the ceremony, winning seven awards for ‘Confessions II’, including Artist of the Year and Best Album. Sabrina Carpenter also secured the Best Collaboration award for her work with Madonna on ‘Bring Your Love’. The event included a viral social media misunderstanding regarding Charli XCX’s expression during a Nirvana tribute, which was incorrectly attributed to a reaction toward Taylor Swift. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-24: Madonna and Charli XCX release collaborative single “Danceteria Afterhours” Madonna and Charli XCX have released “Danceteria Afterhours,” a collaborative remix celebrating club culture, ahead of Madonna’s return to the MTV Video Music Awards. 26 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/madonna-and-charli-xcx-release-danceteria-afterhours-remix ### 2026-09-21: Madonna and Charli xcx announce ‘Danceteria Afterhours’ remix Madonna and Charli xcx are releasing a collaborative remix, ‘Danceteria Afterhours’, on September 24, alongside Madonna’s increased MTV Video Music Awards nominations. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/madonna-and-charli-xcx-announce-danceteria-afterhours-remix ### 2026-09-19: Madonna and Charli XCX announce collaboration ‘Danceteria Afterhours’ Madonna and Charli XCX will release a collaborative rework of the track ‘Danceteria Afterhours’ on September 24. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/madonna-and-charli-xcx-announce-collaboration-danceteria-afterhours --- Cite as: Madonna and Charli XCX release ‘Danceteria Afterhours’.
