During July and August 2026, several Maine restaurants closed their doors, including long-standing local establishments. 

Bayley’s Seafood in Scarborough, a staple for approximately 30 years, closed on August 20. In Kennebunk, the Village Tavern also announced a permanent closure, citing rising costs, changing economic realities, and the termination of its lease. 

Other notable closures during this period included McGlaughlin’s Lobster Shack in Lincolnville, which had operated for nearly 50 years, as well as newer businesses such as Magno Terra Cafe in Yarmouth and Jodie’s Cafe & Bakery in Wiscasset.
