In mid-October, the Seattle Sounders extended an unbeaten streak to nine matches following a 3-0 victory over the New England Revolution. This win marked Seattle’s fourth consecutive victory. By late October, the competitive landscape evolved. The New England Revolution, having previously dropped to fourth place in the Eastern Conference, regained momentum with a four-game winning streak, moving up to second place. Meanwhile, the Seattle Sounders faced challenges in the Western Conference, falling to ninth place in the standings following a loss to the Houston Dynamo. On October 31, the Vancouver Whitecaps clinched the top seed in the Western Conference for the first time in club history following a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders at BC Place. Brian White, Ryan Gauld, and Mathías Laborda contributed to the win, which allows Vancouver to finish the regular season with 58 points. This victory secures home-field advantage for the Western Conference playoffs and qualifies the club for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. In the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami moved into second place after a 2-1 comeback victory over the New England Revolution. Lionel Messi assisted Germán Berterame for an equalizer and scored the winning goal in the 83rd minute. The match included a “controversial VAR decision” that overturned a late New England equalizer. This win moves Miami to 59 points, surpassing New England, and ensures Inter Miami’s qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. Messi also reached 26 goals for the season, strengthening his position in the Golden Boot race. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-31: Inter Miami secures second in Eastern Conference after Messi-led comeback Lionel Messi scored a decisive goal and provided an assist to lead Inter Miami to a 2-1 comeback win over New England, securing second place in the Eastern Conference and a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup. 42 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/major-league-soccer-fixtures-feature-new-england-revolution-and-vancouver-whitecaps ### 2026-10-11: Seattle Sounders defeat New England Revolution 3-0 The Seattle Sounders defeated the New England Revolution 3-0, extending their unbeaten streak to nine games behind a shutout from Andrew Thomas and goals from Dotson, Joveljić, and Arriola. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/seattle-sounders-defeat-new-england-revolution-3-0 --- Cite as: Major League Soccer season developments.
