During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Malaysian officials emphasized the need for proactive global peacebuilding and reform of international governance to better serve the Global South. 

Malaysia reaffirmed its support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), committing US$1 million between 2026 and 2030. Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan called for predictable funding and condemned incursions into UN premises. 

Following these statements, Malaysia and Brunei joined calls for urgent action regarding the Gaza crisis. Mohamad Hasan advocated for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and full UN membership for Palestine, arguing that the current multilateral system is too reactive. Brunei’s Foreign Minister, Prince Abdul Mateen, also called for a permanent ceasefire and the implementation of a two-state solution based on 1967 borders.
