The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) initiated an investigation into suspicious chicken slaughtering methods following viral social media videos in Kuala Lumpur. The probe focused on a company near Pasar Pudu that reportedly lacked Malaysia Halal Certification. While one supplier, Bhuiyen Sdn Bhd, denied involvement in the slaughtering process and claimed they only supply live chickens, local officials called for integrated inspections regarding hygiene and worker permits.

Following these developments, authorities conducted a raid, known as Ops Taring Chiller, at a chicken processing warehouse in Puchong. Officials seized over 6.5 tonnes of raw chicken valued at approximately RM85,400. The facility allegedly used a high-voltage water bath stunning method that caused chickens to die before slaughter, a practice that violates Sharia requirements for halal certification. Specifically, the facility reportedly used voltages as high as 130 volts, significantly exceeding the 10-volt limit set by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

The investigation revealed the facility had previously received warnings from JAKIM but failed to comply. The processed meat had been distributed to various markets and Muslim-owned establishments across the Klang Valley, including areas such as Damansara, Bangi, Cheras, and Putrajaya. The Penang Mufti clarified that Muslims who consumed the meat without knowing its true status are not considered to have sinned, but emphasized that consumption must stop once the status is confirmed as non-halal. Twelve foreign workers from Bangladesh and Pakistan were detained for allegedly lacking slaughtering certificates and being undocumented, and the premises were ordered to close for two weeks to facilitate further inquiries under the Trade Descriptions (Halal) Order 2011 and the Environmental Quality Act 1974.
