Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has advocated for the strategic and ethical integration of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors in Malaysia.

Initially, the Prime Minister called for a protection framework to safeguard the livelihoods of artists and the sustainability of film production companies. During meetings with film industry representatives, he emphasized balancing technological progress with the preservation of national culture, language, and identity.

Subsequently, the focus expanded to include the ethical application of AI in Islamic education, specifically regarding the modernization of Quranic teaching. To ensure digital inclusion, Anwar highlighted the role of the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in bringing AI and technology to rural areas, aiming to prevent technological disparities between urban and district-level populations.

More recently, the Prime Minister has called for Malaysia to transition from being a consumer of foreign technology to a nation that creates, owns, and masters its own technological advancements. Addressing critical challenges such as food security, energy, and climate change, Anwar emphasized that these issues require robust, evidence-based decision-making. 

To support this transition, he highlighted the need for science education to move beyond rote learning toward critical thinking and integrity. While STEM participation has increased to 50.83 percent as of 2024, Anwar noted a gap in pure science enrollment and called for collaborative efforts between the government, academia, and industry to identify and support young talent.
