Malaysian officials are focusing on economic empowerment through women’s entrepreneurship and leadership development. In Pahang, the Pahang Women Entrepreneurs Festival was inaugurated to provide a platform for networking and product marketing. In Sarawak, leadership initiatives such as the Perantis PTS 062 program have been launched to strengthen grassroots governance.

Efforts have since expanded toward scaling these businesses for international markets. The Sarawak government is utilizing the One Stop Collection Centre in Kota Samarahan to improve product quality and packaging. To facilitate broader distribution, authorities are exploring partnerships with airlines to market traditional food products and are working to penetrate markets in Singapore and Indonesia.

Recent strategic initiatives aim to integrate Sarawak’s economy into the regional and international landscape. Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that the state intends to be an active contributor to the ASEAN digital economy, which is projected to reach US$2 trillion by 2030 under the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).

To support this expansion, a Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Pontianak, Indonesia, is expected to begin operations by mid-2027, alongside planned offices in Abu Dhabi to access Middle Eastern markets. Officials are also encouraging local entrepreneurs to leverage trade networks in China and urging small and medium enterprises to meet international standards to capture opportunities within the global halal market, specifically in food, fashion, and handicrafts.
