Emile Doucouré, an 18-year-old goalkeeper playing for KRC Genk, has received his first call-up to the Mali senior national football team. Although he previously represented Belgium at various youth levels from U15 to U19, he has transitioned to the Malian national setup.

His selection coincides with the return of Charleroi defender Cheick Keita to the Malian squad after a one-year absence.

Doucouré has now officially decided to represent Mali internationally, a move that marks a definitive end to any potential future with the Belgian national team. Following discussions with Guy Martens, the goalkeeper stated that he has embraced his Malian roots, declaring, “This is a definitive choice that I fully stand behind: I choose Mali one hundred percent.”

Doucouré has already traveled to Mali to join the senior squad for the current international period, providing reinforcement for the national side as he begins his international career.
