Malibu officials announced the implementation of the PCH Speed Safety System, an automated lidar-based camera network covering 21 miles of the Pacific Coast Highway. The system is intended to reduce speeding, which the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified as a primary factor in numerous traffic collisions. 

Following a public education phase, a 60-day warning period is scheduled to begin in late September. Civil penalties for vehicles traveling at least 11 mph over the limit are expected to commence in late November. These violations will not result in driver’s license points or insurance penalties.
