A male tiger, estimated to be between eight and 10 years old, has been declared a man-eater in the Nilgiris district near Gudalur following two fatal attacks in the Oveli Larston area.

The first victim, Balakrishnan, was killed on August 9 while repairing a water pipe, and a second victim, Ravichandran (identified in later reports as K. Ravikumar), was killed on a Friday. In both cases, the tiger reportedly consumed parts of the victims' bodies. Local residents have staged protests, accusing the forest department of negligence.

In response, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has deployed four specialized teams to track the animal using pugmarks, scat, and drones. Authorities have positioned six cages with live bait along suspected movement routes. While the primary goal is to tranquilize and capture the tiger, forest personnel have been authorized to shoot the animal if it poses an imminent threat to human life during the operation.
