RCD Espanyol manager Manolo González initially expressed a desire to secure a victory against Elche to improve team balance and reliability following a poor performance against Rayo Vallecano. At that time, González noted that player confidence was growing despite potential tactical adjustments necessitated by squad absences.

However, following a 2-1 defeat to Rayo Vallecano, González has faced increased scrutiny. While some supporters have questioned his technical ability due to performance streaks, the club's ownership has maintained its commitment to his continuity. To secure a long-term future, the manager is expected to meet milestones such as winning a cup title or qualifying for European competitions.

Following two consecutive defeats, González addressed the mounting pressure. He stated that he has not felt calm since taking over the first team but emphasized the “strong relationship and trust” he shares with sporting director Monchi. Acknowledging that criticism is a standard risk in his profession, particularly after losses like the one against Elche, González expressed a commitment to working hard to reverse the team's recent form and find better balance on the pitch.

More recently, González addressed the pressure on his position following a 1-1 draw against Málaga. A late equalizer by Niño prevented a victory for Espanyol, but despite the result, González reiterated his confidence in his relationship with Monchi. This draw has continued to raise questions regarding the team's stability and the position of coach Manolo González.
