Initially, the Małopolski Drone Festival in Kraków showcased various military and search-and-rescue unmanned systems, including the Bayraktar TB2 and FlyEye, alongside anti-drone capabilities. Polish Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that drones have “fundamentally changed the rules of the modern battlefield.” Following this, the region expanded its focus through a strategic alliance signed at the Krynica Forum 2026. This partnership between the Małopolska Voivodeship, several Kraków-based universities, the Kraków Technology Park, and the Małopolska Regional Development Agency aims to bridge scientific research and economic needs by developing dual-use technologies for both civilian and military purposes. Additionally, local emergency response capabilities have been bolstered by the acquisition of camera- and speaker-equipped drones by the Volunteer Fire Department in Borzęcin Duży to assist in search operations and fire monitoring. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-29: Małopolska region expands drone and defense technology initiatives Małopolska is launching a science-business alliance to advance drone and dual-use technologies, while local fire services receive new drone equipment for emergency response. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/maopolska-region-expands-drone-and-defense-technology-initiatives ### 2026-10-02: Małopolski Drone Festival showcases defense technology in Kraków The Małopolski Drone Festival in Kraków showcased advanced unmanned systems and anti-drone technology, highlighting their critical role in modern defense and search-and-rescue operations. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/maopolski-drone-festival-showcases-defense-technology-in-krakw --- Cite as: Małopolska drone and defense technology development.
