FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has reached an agreement to extend his contract with the club until 2031. The extension, which adds two years to his existing deal, includes a release clause set at 500 million euros.

While the club aims to secure the La Masia academy product, Bernal has faced competition for playing time from established players such as Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Rodri. Despite his role transitioning largely to a substitute under manager Hansi Flick, the club views him as a fundamental component for their long-term project.

Recent reports indicate that Bernal, now 19, has shown significant development despite facing health challenges, including a knee injury that impacted his playing time during the 2024/25 season. His physical strength and ability to dictate tempo have drawn comparisons to Sergio Busquets. Although some reports suggested the club might consider a sale or loan, Hansi Flick has reportedly designated the player as “non-transferable,” aiming to integrate him further into the first team.

As the club moves to protect its asset, interest has intensified from several Premier League clubs. Liverpool is monitoring Bernal’s development for a potential move in 2027, while Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have also been linked to the player. Atlético de Madrid remains an interested party as well.
