Former NBA player Marcin Gortat issued a statement following the circulation of a viral video depicting a verbal altercation between him and a passerby in Poland. 

Gortat claimed the footage was incomplete and failed to show the context of the encounter. He explained that he declined a request for a photo because he was walking home with a sleeping child in a stroller. According to Gortat, the individual responded with insults, vulgar language, and mathematical taunts, such as asking ‘how much is 7 times 9’. 

Gortat stated he approached the man to clarify the remarks, at which point the individual began recording. He characterized the man’s words as a threat and asserted his right to refuse photo requests while caring for a child.
