Following a high-profile transfer to Ajax, Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo has struggled to adapt to the Eredivisie. Early reports indicated he was facing a difficult period, characterized by a scoring drought and relegation to the bench behind competitors such as Tolu Arokodare and Kasper Dolberg. While technical director Jordi Cruijff and former players called for patience, noting that missing chances could indicate proper positioning, analysts have since intensified their criticism.

Recent assessments from analysts Kenneth Perez and Karim El Ahmadi have been particularly harsh. Perez described Leonardo’s technique as “distressing,” citing errors in ball control and slow execution. El Ahmadi further criticized the striker’s first touches as “dramatic,” suggesting that his performance levels have not justified his high transfer price.
