The transfer dispute between Marcos Rojo and Racing Club has been resolved, with the 36-year-old defender set to return to Estudiantes de La Plata for a third stint.

Following a period of stalemate where Rojo missed training sessions to pressure for a move, Racing President Diego Milito and Estudiantes leadership reached an agreement. To facilitate the transfer, Rojo reportedly agreed to waive a portion of unpaid wages owed to him by Racing. Estudiantes will pay approximately $800,000 to compensate for the remaining three months of Rojo’s contract, with additional payments potentially tied to performance milestones.

This move allows Rojo to bolster the Estudiantes squad for the Copa Libertadores semifinals against Flamengo. The veteran defender has met with Estudiantes president Juan Sebastián Verón to finalize terms and is expected to undergo medical examinations and sign a contract through December 2027. His arrival is viewed as a strategic decision by manager Alexander Medina to provide leadership in the defense, particularly as players Leandro González Pírez and Tomás Palacios face suspensions.
