In September, the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) concluded a three-day Table Top Exercise in Visakhapatnam. This exercise involved member states and observer nations to simulate responses to threats such as maritime terrorism, narcotics smuggling, human trafficking, and illegal fishing, with an emphasis on improving information-sharing and Maritime Domain Awareness. By October, strategic discussions shifted toward the role of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) in protecting India’s maritime interests. During a conclave marking the ANC’s Silver Jubilee, military leaders addressed the strategic importance of the archipelago due to its proximity to the Strait of Malacca. Discussions highlighted the need for synergy between India’s Navy, Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard to manage regional challenges and monitor maritime choke points. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-11: Andaman and Nicobar Command hosts strategic conclave on maritime security Military leaders convened at the Andaman and Nicobar Command to discuss tri-services strategy and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific and the strategically vital Indian Ocean Region. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/andaman-and-nicobar-command-hosts-strategic-conclave-on-maritime-security ### 2026-09-12: Colombo Security Conclave maritime exercise concludes in Visakhapatnam The Colombo Security Conclave concluded a three-day maritime security exercise in Visakhapatnam, focusing on coordinated responses to terrorism, smuggling, and illegal fishing in the Indian Ocean Region. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/colombo-security-conclave-maritime-exercise-concludes-in-visakhapatnam --- Cite as: Maritime security initiatives in the Indian Ocean Region.
