In Morocco, early incidents included a blaze at the Al Massira Market in Casablanca that affected approximately 30 shops. Subsequent fires were reported at the Melilia Market in Oujda and in Tangier. In response to these events, the Oriental Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services approved a partnership with a national insurance company to provide merchants with coverage for shops, goods, and health, addressing previous barriers such as a lack of property deeds. In Egypt, a gas cylinder explosion in a Fayoum bakery caused a fire that destroyed several businesses and resulted in eight injuries, including smoke inhalation and burns. Later, civil defense forces contained a fire at the Kafr al-Badmas market in the Daqahliya Governorate, which originated in a pigeon tower and spread to nearby residential units; no injuries were reported in that specific instance. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-07: Market fires in Morocco and Egypt prompt safety and insurance measures Market fires in Morocco and Egypt have prompted new insurance initiatives in Oujda and emergency responses in Daqahliya to protect traders and residents. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/market-fires-in-morocco-and-egypt-prompt-safety-and-insurance-measures ### 2026-09-27: Fires reported in Casablanca market and Fayoum bakery Fires in Casablanca and Fayoum caused significant property damage.
