Early in the month, the women’s soccer team faced significant struggles, recording its sixth consecutive loss following a 4-0 defeat to Minnesota. Simultaneously, the football program faced scrutiny after a 54-3 loss to UCLA, though head coach Mike Locksley maintained that his position was not under internal fire from athletic director Jim Smith. By the end of the month, other programs showed improvement. The men’s soccer team achieved a defensive resurgence, recording its first back-to-back shutouts of the season against St. John’s and Ohio State. However, the No. 11 ranked men’s soccer team later fell 2-1 to No. 7 Washington, despite outshooting the Huskies 10-5. In football, the Terps suffered a 20-17 loss to Illinois at SECU Stadium. Although Maryland led 14-10 entering the fourth quarter, the team allowed a 64-yard touchdown run by Javari Barnett and a late 26-yard field goal. The field hockey team concluded its regular season with a 16-1 record, highlighted by a 5-1 victory over No. 8 Iowa. The women’s soccer team also ended its season on a positive note with a 3-2 victory over Rutgers, driven by two goals from Jolie Farmer. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-30: Maryland athletics reports various seasonal results Maryland University athletic teams saw varied results, including a football loss to Illinois, a men’s soccer defeat to Washington, and strong finishes in field hockey and women’s soccer. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/maryland-athletics-report-soccer-defense-improves-and-field-hockey-wins-regular-season ### 2026-10-03: Maryland athletics face setbacks in soccer and football Maryland's women's soccer team suffered its largest loss of the season against Minnesota, while football coach Mike Locksley addressed recent scrutiny following a heavy loss to UCLA ahead of a matchup with Nebr 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/maryland-athletics-face-setbacks-in-soccer-and-football --- Cite as: Maryland Terrapins athletic performance.
