During New York Comic Con in October 2026, Masashi Kishimoto announced new projects for the Naruto franchise. The initial announcement included a new manga described as a direct continuation of the original story, alongside a new anime project featuring a crossover with the manga Ninku by Koji Kiriyama.

Subsequent details identified the new manga as ‘Naruto: Shadow Rising’. This project is intended to bridge the timeline between the conclusion of Naruto Shippuden and the start of the Boruto era, focusing on Naruto Uzumaki’s transition toward becoming Hokage. While the announcement led to social media speculation regarding the canonical status of the Boruto series, no official changes to the existing canon have been confirmed by Kishimoto or Shueisha. Further information is anticipated at Jump Festa 2027.
