The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) conducted an audit of THC potency labeling on marijuana flower products to ensure accuracy for medical and recreational consumers. The audit, which began in May, tested 63 products from 62 different producers.

Regulators established that an accurate label must fall within a range of 75% to 125% of the stated potency. The audit revealed that approximately 13% of the tested products were noncompliant, with 13 samples receiving ‘red’ ratings for falling outside the acceptable range. Only seven products were found to be within 2% of their labeled potency.

In response to these findings, the CCC has placed the noncompliant products on administrative holds. Producers are required to take corrective actions, such as destroying the products, retesting them, or recalling and relabeling them. Commission Chair Chris Harding noted that the audit is a step toward maintaining market trust and ensuring health and safety, particularly for medical patients who require precise dosing.
