Mastercard has announced its sponsorship of a 36-hour XRP Ledger (XRPL) hackathon, which is scheduled to be held in New York on October 24–25. The event, hosted by XRPL Commons, takes place shortly before Ripple’s Swell conference.

The hackathon is organized into four development tracks: Protocol Innovation, Agentic Finance, Lending & Borrowing, and an Open Track. Participants will focus on areas such as autonomous AI agents for machine-to-machine payments, on-chain credit infrastructure, and core technology amendments. Developers with existing projects are also encouraged to integrate XRPL functionality into their current products.

This sponsorship follows previous collaborations between Mastercard and Ripple, including a 2024 initiative involving the RLUSD stablecoin and the launch of an XRP edition of the Mastercard credit card by Gemini.
