Development of the fifth Matrix film is underway, with Drew Goddard expected to serve as both director and screenwriter. While Lana Wachowski will remain involved as an executive producer, this installment will be the first in the franchise not directed by the Wachowski sisters.

Initial reports suggested a potential theatrical release as early as 2028. However, following the merger of Warner Bros. and Paramount into Skydance, new projections suggest a possible 2029 debut. The return of original cast members Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss remains unconfirmed, and plot details are being kept confidential.
