Netflix has released ‘The One About Matthew Perry’, a three-part docuseries directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson. The series, which premiered on October 27, 2026, explores the life and career of the late ‘Friends’ star, utilizing previously unreleased personal photographs and videos from the actor’s family archives to provide an intimate look at the man behind Chandler Bing.

The documentary features firsthand accounts from Perry’s sister, Mia Perry Bowick, and his brother-in-law, David Bowick, alongside testimonies from longtime friends and professional collaborators, including Roger Castillo, David Pressman, and former NBC Entertainment executive Warren Littlefield.

While the original ‘Friends’ cast—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—did not participate in new interviews due to the loss remaining “too raw”, they appear in archival footage. The series provides a candid examination of Perry’s lifelong struggle with substance use disorder and significant health crises, such as a near-fatal colon rupture in 2018, as well as his experiences during the 2021 ‘Friends’ reunion special.

Coming nearly three years after Perry’s death in October 2023—which was ruled an accident caused by the acute effects of ketamine—the production aims to present a complete portrait of his professional ascent, his private battles, and his legacy as an advocate for recovery. The release, which includes Super 8 footage and audio recordings, arrived on the eve of the third anniversary of his passing. The documentary also touches upon the legal aftermath of his death, noting the conviction of several individuals involved in the incident.
