In Hungary, the 2026 autumn matura exam period is scheduled from October 12 to November 20, including written exams in subjects like mathematics and history, followed by oral examinations in November. This period coincides with the secondary school admission season, which has been linked to ‘parental educational anxiety’ due to administrative burdens and competitive pressures.

In Austria, the Ministry of Education has proposed draft schedules for the 2028 and 2029 central Matura exams. The 2028 schedule begins in early May with Latin and German, accounting for regional holidays, and includes compensation exams in June. The 2029 schedule shifts to start on May 7, with exam dates adjusted to accommodate Ascension Day and Pentecost.
