Speculation arose regarding tension between French football teammates Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé following comments made during the Ballon d'Or race. The friction reportedly began when Mbappé described himself as the ‘chosen one’ who reached the top quickly, while noting that Dembélé’s path was marked by injuries despite his talent. Dembélé responded by emphasizing his hard work and stating he had never been the ‘chosen one.’

Reports indicated that Marcus Thuram intervened to mediate the disagreement. Mbappé has since dismissed claims of a rift, stating in interviews with L’Equipe and France Football that he has spoken with Dembélé and that there is no conflict between them, describing Dembélé as a friend.

Ousmane Dembélé has further dismissed the rumors, characterizing the controversy as ‘small wars on social media.’ Speaking as captain of the France national team in Mbappé’s absence due to a knee injury, Dembélé clarified that the two players remain on good terms and communicate regularly during national team gatherings. He emphasized that his focus remains on the pitch rather than internet controversies, highlighting the importance of team unity over individual stardom.
