These programs focus on teaching students to verify sources, distinguish facts from opinions, and understand how emotions influence information consumption. Instructors utilize practical experiments to demonstrate the risks of online manipulation and the importance of pausing before reacting to digital content. Building on these educational efforts, the Center for Independent Journalism (CJI), in partnership with UNESCO and DW Akademie, recently announced winners for media literacy competitions. The ‘Little Media Detective’ contest for primary school students encouraged participants to create illustrated stories about verifying social media information. Additionally, the ‘Learning to Filter. Creating Digital Content that Inspires Trust’ competition recognized digital content creators following training programs held in July 2026. The awards ceremony was held in Chișinău on October 23, 2026. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: CJI and UNESCO announce winners of media literacy competitions in Moldova The Center for Independent Journalism and UNESCO have announced winners for two media literacy competitions in Moldova targeting students and digital content creators. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cji-and-unesco-announce-winners-of-media-literacy-competitions-in-moldova ### 2026-10-02: Media education programs mark 10 years in Moldovan schools Media education in Moldova marks ten years of teaching students to verify sources, distinguish facts from opinions, and manage emotional responses to online information. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/media-education-programs-mark-10-years-in-moldovan-schools --- Cite as: Media literacy initiatives in Moldova.
