Medical professionals held several national meetings in the Palermo region to advance specialized clinical practices. 

In late September, the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery organized a national consensus meeting at Ismett in Palermo. The gathering focused on standardizing treatment protocols and clinical practices for both adult and pediatric cardiac transplantation, with experts noting Italy’s high long-term survival rates in the field.

In October, the 12th national congress of the Italian Pulmonary Hypertension Network (Iphnet) was held at the Saracen Sands Hotel in Isola delle Femmine, in collaboration with Ismett. The congress served as a primary meeting point for Italian centers dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension. Key discussions addressed disease progression, new therapeutic targets, decision-making algorithms, and the integration of clinical study evidence, real-life data, and the emerging National Registry of Pulmonary Hypertension.

Scientific Director Patrizio Vitulo noted that Iphnet has participated in pivotal studies, such as the Zenith study, which led to the registration of innovative drugs. Furthermore, Angelo Luca, Director of Ismett, announced plans for a new scientific hub in Carini. This facility is intended to house a high-complexity research hospital and the Ri.Med. Center, which is expected to be one of Europe’s largest research centers.
