Jesús Maximiano Verduzco Soto, a homeopathic doctor, surrendered to authorities in Hermosillo, Sonora, after being a fugitive for approximately six months. He faces accusations of involuntary manslaughter following an investigation into medical malpractice involving the administration of vitaminized intravenous solutions.

State prosecutors allege that these solutions were contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms due to a lack of proper hygiene or sterilization protocols. The incident reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least eight people and caused health complications for at least 12 others. One victim died on April 2 due to cardiorespiratory failure, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, and multiple organ failure.

Following his surrender, which occurred after the seizure of his assets and the freezing of his bank accounts, a judge ordered preventive detention for the defendant. Verduzco Soto has been transferred to the Hermosillo Social Reinsertion Center (Cereso) to await judicial proceedings.
